July Consumer Alert

Writer's picture: Adrienne KourtesisAdrienne Kourtesis

Updated: Oct 22, 2024

We hope you are enjoying a safe, active, and healthy summer. Please be advised of the following consumer alerts that have recently been issued:

  1. Medical Device Recall: Philips Respironics issued a recall notification for certain CPAP, PAP, and mechanical ventilator devices, due to defective sound abatement foam releasing toxic particles into users’ airways. Lawsuits against Phillips allege that the defective products cause cancer, heart problems, stroke, respiratory failure, liver disease, and kidney disease.

  1. Automotive Recall: General Motors re-advised all owners of Chevy Bolt vehicles to avoid parking outside or charging the vehicles overnight because of the potential for the battery cell packs to catch fire. This vehicle was originally recalled in November 2020.

  1. Consumer Products Recall: Johnson & Johnson announced a recall of five Neutrogena and Aveeno aerosol sunscreens after finding measurable levels of the carcinogen benzene in the products. Recalled products include: Neutrogena Beach Defense aerosol sunscreen, Neutrogena Cool Dry Sport aerosol sunscreen, Neutrogena Invisible Daily Defense aerosol sunscreen, Neutrogena Ultra Sheer aerosol sunscreen, and Aveeno Protect + Refresh aerosol sunscreen.

Johnson & Johnson is also party to a class action lawsuit regarding its line of OGX hair products—consumers allege that the products contain the carcinogen formaldehyde, causing baldness and scalp damage. Consumers who have purchased these products should discontinue use and dispose of them.
